MINIMUM WAGES HIKED IN PUNJAB W.E.F. 01.03.2020

As per the Indian Constitution, ‘Minimum Wage’ has been defined as the level of income for skilled and unskilled workers which ensures a sustaining standard of living while also providing for some measure of comfort. A minimum wage not just supports the bare level of employment, but also seeks for viable continuous improvement. It aims at preventing exploitation of labour.

The State Government, keeping in view the rise in cost of living index figures, has  revised  the  rates  of minimum wages w.e.f. 01.03.2020 and 01.09.2020. The revision in minimum wage based on consumer price index was due on March 1, 2020. With the hike in minimum wage, a worker would also be entitled to get arrears from March 1, 2020 up to October, 2021.
